Jantzen Audio - Inductor in Air 0.04 mH
DataSheet Inductors in the Air
An inductor consists of a winding of conductive material, generally copper wire, covered with a thin insulating film. In practice, an inductor can be taken as a solenoid.
To increase the inductance, it is often used to realize the winding on a core of material with high magnetic permeability (eg: ferrites). An inductor can also be inserted into an integrated circuit. In this case, aluminum is commonly used as a conductive material.
It is, however, rare that an inductor is inserted into an integrated circuit: practical limits make the use of a circuit called a "gyrator", which uses a capacitor to simulate the behavior of an inductor, much more common. Small inductors used for very high frequencies are sometimes made with a simple wire that crosses a cylinder or a bead (small ring) of ferrite.
